Smith Goodfellow – a built environment specialist PR consultancy – has been awarded an EcoVadis Silver Medal in recognition of its sustainability achievements. The globally recognised, independent business sustainability assessment platform gave the company an overall score of 75/100, putting them in the top 15% of the 150,000+ companies across 185+ countries that have undergone the process.

EcoVadis is one of the world’s leading platforms for assessing and certifying the sustainability credentials of companies operating across over 250 sectors. The framework is tailored to industry sector, country and company size, evaluating how well a company has integrated the principles of sustainability/CSR into their business and management system. Smith Goodfellow was assessed across three categories – Environment, Human Rights & Labour, and Ethics – and was found to have demonstrated an advanced management system across all three areas, with a particularly strong performance in the Ethics category.

EcoVadis ratings are determined through a rigorous self-assessment process, involving answering hundreds of questions and supplying supporting evidence. These responses are then independently assessed and scored by EcoVadis’ sustainability experts, with a final overall score given from zero to 100 that is then used to create credible industry rankings.

Smith Goodfellow’s high score places the business in the 94th percentile, resulting in the business being in the top 15% of companies assessed in the last 12 months and being awarded a Silver Medal for achieving strong scores in each of the three categories.

Speaking about the achievement, Jen Heil, Director of Business Development for Smith Goodfellow commented:

“Our commitment to best practice across business operations goes back many years and is a central part of our culture. We started our Impact Project in 2020 in order to more actively measure, monitor and improve our impact and demonstrate that we are genuinely dedicated to ethical and sustainable practices. Undertaking the EcoVadis assessment process has provided recognition for all the work we’ve done so far, as well as helping us to identify where we can make further improvements going forward. I couldn’t be prouder of this achievement and of our team for living these commitments every day.”

Managing Director of Smith Goodfellow, Cathy Barlow added:

“I am so proud that we have achieved this exceptional rating, which is the direct result of all the hard work of our team, engaging whole heartedly with our ethos, processes and practices. It just shows that even a relatively small business can have a positive impact in the world, and we are now looking forward to seeing how we can make that even better!”
