It’s hard to believe that November is already on its way out, with Christmas and a whole new year just around the corner. Far from slowing down, it’s busier than ever at SG HQ and we thought we’d give you a little insight into what’s going on. Here’s a behind the scenes round up from the team.

Marketer in London

Back in October, surrounded by all the spooky fun, our very own Kelly Oldham ran in one of the charity spots in the Royal Parks Half Marathon – signing up back in June despite a few years off big events! She ran 13.1 miles in support of CRASH (the construction industry’s charity that supports vulnerable people, such as the homeless and those in hospice care facilities) on 9 October. The route takes you around London, including through Hyde Park, and she says it was a beautiful day! You can view pictures of the day on her RPH Instagram Highlights.

Kelly has raised over £400 so far – a big thank you to all who have donated already. If you haven’t donated yet and can, please visit the Just Giving – Royal Parks Half page to do so and help this fantastic charity to continue to do amazing work.

Award season

This year, we were shortlisted for both ‘The Corporate Social Responsibility Award’ and ‘Employer of the Year’ in the Stockport Business Awards! Our team attended the black-tie dinner event on 6th October at Edgeley Park and had a fabulous time. Whilst we may not have won, we were up against some tough, and very deserving, competition, and we’re proud to have received a ‘Highly Commended’ award for both categories. Thank you to Stockport Business Awards for a great event and well done to everyone who won on the night. We love being part of the Stockport Business Community!

In addition, we’re also incredibly proud and excited to have been shortlisted for the 2022 Construction Marketing Awards in the Strategic Planning & Management category, for our work with our client Siderise. We’ll be attending the award ceremony down in London on Thursday 1st December – fingers crossed for a win!

Getting down to business

In October, we officially welcomed a new client, Guardian Warm Roof. The business designs and supplies bespoke warm roofs for conservatory conversions, using a network of accredited fabricators and installers to fit the products. They were the first to market with a warm roof construction that is light enough to be transplanted onto an existing conservatory. It’s been so exciting getting to know them and we’re really looking forward to working with them on some interesting projects!

At the start of 2022, we began working with JHS Carpets who are a leading supplier of high-quality commercial carpet, carpet tiles and floorcoverings in the UK. Initially we primarily focused on case studies, before moving onto a retainer account with a more comprehensive strategy. Part of the Headlam Group of companies, Crucial Trading has now also joined our portfolio. Crucial Trading offers floor coverings and bespoke rugs – all made with premium natural fibres and materials.

We’re also thrilled to be continuing our work with Speedpanel, as their business journey takes them under a new parent company. We always love getting to work with clients who are passionate about what they do and the Speedpanel team are infectiously enthusiastic! It’s also always a pleasure, and a testament to our work, when clients want to retain us through and beyond significant changes in their own business.

As you can see, it’s been a year of brilliant growth for our client portfolio – we’re looking forward to continuing this in 2023!

Team work makes the dream work

As we’re sure you can imagine, with so much growth in our client portfolio and retained work, the team has had to continue to grow and upskill to meet the demand! We’ve been fortunate to recruit another awesome team member in Odiame – our Social Media Executive – who’s experience in social media strategy and brilliant creative thinking is enabling us to grow the digital side of our offer even further.

We are also super proud of our Account Executive, James, who has worked his socks off over the last 18 months to complete a PRCA apprenticeship and diploma in Public Relations. All that hard work has certainly paid off as he received his results this week and has passed with a well-deserved Distinction! Congratulations, James! We’re so lucky to have you on the team.

It’s not only our newer recruits who’ve been ramping up the SG skill set either. Jen and Jodie are both undertaking management and business leadership courses, which is keeping them busy. Meanwhile our Creative Executive, Adrian, has been developing his videography and video editing skills, which several of our clients are already benefiting from. Our Graphic Designer, Daisy, has been working on some brilliant animations, in addition to her stellar graphic work – another service that’s in increasing demand! All this is on top of the usual PR and marketing training, and construction industry research and CPD, that is part and parcel of working at SG. We like to keep ourselves busy!

Charity and community

As always, supporting charitable causes remains an important part of who we are as a business.

We are continuing to support St Ann’s Hospice with their #BuildItTogether campaign, as they seek to raise £2million for the construction of a new hospice building. Jen and Jodie regularly attend their fundraising board meetings and we’re constantly on the look out for opportunities that might help this vital work. You can find out more about the campaign here – and get in touch if you think you or your business could help!

We also continue to sponsor City of Trees and some of the team will be attending a tree planting event in Stockport at the beginning of December.

Meanwhile, the SG team are regular faces at Stockport Council’s Climate Action Business Forum, where we’re sharing our Impact Project journey and working with other local businesses to drive climate action in Stockport.
