We are thrilled to announce that we will be speaking at the Stockport Climate Action Now summit, taking place on 9th November 2021.

Next month, Stockport Council are hosting their very first virtual CAN (Climate Action Now) Summit, demonstrating the local authority’s commitment to tackling climate change and becoming a carbon neutral region by 2038.

The summit will include four sessions held throughout the day:

  • Stockport CAN (10am – 11:15am) – in the opening session, we’ll hear from young people across the borough, explore what carbon neutral by 2038 means, and the council will share an update about how they are moving forward.
  • Businesses (11:30am – 12:50pm) – building on conversations from the October Sustainability in Action event, business from across Stockport (including Smith Goodfellow!) will share presentations and participate in Q&As exploring how they are considering and measuring their climate impact. This session will also see the relaunch of the Stockport Sustainable Business Network.
  • Young People (1:30pm – 2:45pm) – in session three, hosted by the Youth Climate Commission, young people will take part in a workshop and have their say on climate action in Stockport. The winners of the recent poetry competition will be announced live and an art competition will be launched. Schools and colleges from across the borough have been invited to send up to 4 eco reps to attend the young people’s section.
  • Communities (3pm – 4:30pm) – in the final section of the day, the focus will be on the areas of an individual carbon footprint. We’ll celebrate some of the amazing community climate action being taken with presentations and Q&As centred on food, energy and reuse & repair. This session will also see the launch of the Stockport CAN funding scheme which will provide seed-funding for micro-projects that impact greenhouse gas emissions.

We are incredibly excited to be a part of this event and to get involved with making positive change at a local level. We will be speaking during the business section of the event, when we will be sharing the work we’ve been doing on our Impact Assessment project and launching our first impact report.

The summit will be hosted digitally and is completely free to attend. You can book tickets for individual sessions, or choose a ‘whole day’ ticket. Book your place here and we hope to see you there!
